This lesson introduces learners to what a stakeholder is, we discuss examples of stakeholders, students consider the stakehodlers of their school, we then go on to look at the different interests of the stakeholders. Some consolidation activties such as matching stakeholders to definitions or a more challenging version included.
Students consider the most important and least important interest for each stakeholder before going on to complete a 6 mark analyse question on Apple. A model answer is given with context highlighted in red - to help students build this important skill. Finally we look at conflicting interests of stakeholders with examples.

This double lesson introduces learners to the range of sources of finances available to businesses. We start with looking at why businesses need finance, then go through the different types of finance with their pros and cons, followed by a consolidation activity.
A 9 mark question with a case study on an oil company, with guidance on how to structure.
The second lesson is a more engaging and interactive group lesson where students look at different scenarios and work in groups to provide one source of finance each with a justification, the weakest link gets voted out.

This lesson introduces learners to the factors which make a firm globally competitive. We start by looking at the impact of changes in exchange rates and how this can affect the competitiveness of firms even though it is out of their control. We then move onto factors that are more in their contrl such as differentiation and trying to gain low cost competitiveness through economies of scale.
A concise case study on China’s toy factories as they manufacture most of the toys in the world, students answer a question on how their competitiveness might affect UK firms in the same industry, and to what extent. Structure guidance and concise model answer to aid in peer assessing.

This lesson introduces learners the types of conditions which push or pull countries to operate in different countries. We then go on to look at the difference between off-shoring and outsourcing with examples, pros and cons are discussed.
A concise case study on an IT company Xceed is looked at, and why they decide to operate in a different country - this is a good build up to the next lesson where we assess countries.

This lesson introduces learners to different types of corporate strategy such as Ansoff’s Matrix and Porter’s strategic matrix. We start by looking at Ansoff’s and the four types of strategies involved here, each with their pros and cons. We then go on to read a brief case study on a plumbing company, wth a 4 mark question and a model answer to self assess with.
We then go on to look at Porter’s strategies, again each witht their pros and cons before looking at the difference between tactics and strategies. Finally a case study on Toyota and their strategy. This case study comes with a 4 and 10 mark question, both with guidance and concise model answers for peer assessment. An interactive kahoot quiz with the link to the game to consolidate the day’s learning.

This lesson introduces learnes to elasticity of supply. We look at the difference between elastic and inelastic supply, as well as perfectly inelastic and unitary elastic supply, with examples. We also look at the reasons that cause supply to be inelastic or elastic. Students have the opportunity to complete calculations with a model example done first.

This bundle could be delivered over 3 lessons and introduces learners to return on capital employed and gearing, whilst consolidating ratios from theme 2 such as current ratio, acid test, gross and net profit margins. Students have a chance to consider the limitations of ratios also.
We start by demonstrating simple broken down examples of roce and gearing, as well as the other ratios with a range of consolidation activities. We also have a group task where students are given accounts of a major retailer, and they have to report back on how well the company has been performing by carrying out all the ratio analysis.

In the first lesson, we start by looking at what culture means in business and what a organisations culture is made up of, how it is formmed. We then look at a number of real life examples of strong and weak cultures. We then look at Handy’s four cultures and Hofstede’s national cultures models. Influences on culture as these differ in businesses, finally we look at the challenges of changing culture as this is deeply embedded and always visible in business.

This double lesson introduces learners to the world of taxes. We start by discussing what a tax is, types of taxes in the UK and the categories of taxes such as progressive, proportional and regressive taxation. An engaging story video on progressive taxes to highlight what it is and an evaluation. We look at VAT with some charts and graphs to contextualise it before looking at current income tax rates. We discuss the economic effects of changes in direct and indrect tax rates on other variables with examples and thought provoking questions. This double lesson builds on learners understanding of market failure from year 12, but now we focus on failure in the financial sector. A very interestesting topic due to the application of the financial crisis. We start by recapping what market failure is and how banks fail. We then look at the 2008 financial crisis to understand what happened. Examples of different market failures are given, video case studies to help students contextualise. A 15 mark question on whether banks should be bailed out, indicative points and a peer assessment grid is included for students to use. A research task, some true or false questions to consolidate, a debate, box plenary and kahoot to finish with. A link to a documentary for homework too.
